STUDIOS FOR RENT
Studio spaces are available to visual artists that work in varied media such as acrylic paint, mixed-media, clay, wood, etc. Each artist is interviewed as to their needs and then accommodations are provided if possible. We like to think the studio is like a library, so headphones are used for your music, etc. Animals are not allowed or smoking.
Studios vary in size, ranging from 100 sq. ft. to 1,000 sq ft. Prices include utilities and start at $400 and range up to $1,000. The studios are not air-conditioned or heated, but with our mild weather the building accommodates Houston's climate as it was built for air circulation with big fans throughout. Stand-up heaters are used in the winter or pick up a broom and sweep your floor, that will warm you up.
Upon renting a studio, first months rent is due and can be prorated but last month's is not prorated. A deposit of one month's rent is required before move-in. The deposit will be returned if the studio is left the way it was found. Rent is month-to-month with a signed lease. You must give one month's notice before leaving to receive your deposit back.
Occasionally, we will host a fund-raiser that is art-related. We are also open to one person and group exhibits put on by the artist. For our annual ARTCRAWL, the Saturday before Thanksgiving, you as resident studio artist may choose to participate by opening up your studio that day or you may choose not to open your door. Sales in your studio are your responsibility, we do not take a commission. If you are invited to exhibit your artwork outside of your studio in the gallery space, Motherdog takes 40% of the sales.
